On June 16, 2020, the city of St. Louis removed a massive statue of genocidal mass murderer Christopher Columbus from Tower Grove park. The growing resistance of African and Indigenous people throughout this country has forced the removal of colonial and white nationalist statues in multiple cities.
Penny Hess, Chair of the African People’s Solidarity Committee, was on the scene, responding to the removal of the statue and calling on white people to declare, “No more genocide in our name” and stand in solidarity with African, Indigenous and colonized people struggling for national liberation and self-determination. Chairwoman Penny went live from her Facebook page to record the statue’s removal and made a powerful statement of unity with African and Indigenous anti-colonial struggle.
