What Do You Mean By Reparations?!
September 22 @ 3:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Do you support reparations to the black community for 600 years of slavery, stolen labor, torture, lynchings, resource theft, and ongoing genocide?
What is the history of the demand for reparations? What does it look like in St. Louis? How can white people concretely support reparations on the terms of the black community? How can reparations be a strategy to stop gentrification- a force that is destroying, and has already destroyed, black communities across the country?
This event is designed to answer these questions and more. We will meet at the Uhuru House community center (4101 West Florissant Ave) and take a tour of the Black Power Blueprint, a black self-determination project in St. Louis that includes the Uhuru House, an outdoor marketplace venue, housing, and the Uhuru Jiko community bakery, cafe, and kitchen for black food businesses to rent cheaply to get their catering businesses off the ground.
From the Uhuru House we will go to the Uhuru Jiko Kitchen, then to the housing projects, and end up at the marketplace venue right across from the Uhuru House.
