Evening Reception with Chairman Omali Yeshitela!

September 13, 2016 @ 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

an evening with chairman omali flyer

In 1966, as a young organizer of the Student Nonviolent
Coordinating Committee Omali Yeshitela led a bold action
that removed the racist mural that had hung in full view at the
St. Petersburg city hall for 30 years. Yeshitela was sentenced to five years in prison for this act. The spot has remained empty ever since.

Now the city is attempting to whitewash history with a new mural that belies the true history and conditions of black people today.

Demand that the city place a plaque in the empty spot with a
tribute and apology to Chairman Omali Yeshitela, the members of SNCC and the African community.

Come out on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 6 pm to meet and greet Chairman Omali Yeshitela and express your support for the man who has tirelessly fought for justice and freedom for African people for the past half century.

The reception will be held at Akwaaba Hall in the Uhuru House, 1245 18th Ave. South, St. Petersburg.
