More than a hate crime: Exposing the roots of anti-Asian violence

Exposing the roots of white violence against Asians

The white terrorist who murdered eight people last week has blown open the seeping wounds of imperialism even wider, following on the heels of mass uprisings against police murder of African people in the last year.

On March 16, 2021 Robert Aaron Long shot and killed six Asian women in the Atlanta area on Thursday. Investigators are calling this incident’s motive “unclear”; some are calling it a “hate crime.” We are calling it what it is: colonialism.

These putrid acts result from a parasitic colonial-capitalist system built on the enslavement of African people and the genocide against the Indigenous people of the Americas and theft of their land. This is the pedestal upon which all of white society rests.

There is colonialism inside the U.S., in which the white population is the colonial settler population living at the expense of African and Indigenous people. This is the foundation of all colonial violence.

Asian workers were first brought to the U.S. during the time the British and U.S. were waging Opium Wars against China, forcing the Chinese to trade tea for opium and imposing massive drug addiction on the Chinese people. The U.S. exploited Asian workers to build railroads and other infrastructure.

This is the same government who slaughtered millions of Asian people in the Korean and Vietnamese Wars. This is the same government that tortured children and sexually abused women using electricity in Viet Nam. The same government who dropped two atomic bombs on Japan, and who is routinely threatening war with China and Korea today.

There has been an escalation of violence towards Asian people this past year, encouraged by the US government, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Nearly 3,800 attacks were reported over the course of 2020, as reported by Stop AAPI Hate.

Asian people have been “regularly getting beat, harassed, spat on, murdered and jumped”, said TikTok user Hailey Cheng. “A Burmese family, including toddlers, were stabbed in a grocery store because of Covid, a 61-year-old Filipino man had his face slashed on the subway… an Asian woman was set on fire and doused in acid.”

More than a hate crime

Colonial violence is built into capitalist the system itself, not an isolated “hate crime” carried out by one individual. Africans are gunned down by police and armed white vigilantes daily, Mexican families are torn apart and kept in cages at the border and face violence by white militias, Indigenous people have been forced to live in concentration camps across the US, Muslims are being murdered, their mosques infiltrated by the FBI, and Asians are demonized through the media and white ruling class.

This mass shooting is an honest look inside the real America: the colonial terror on display has been replicating since Africans were first kidnapped, forced onto this continent, were beaten, branded, raped, burned and mutilated by white Europeans.

America was built on the blood of the colonized. The devastation of African and colonized people is inherent in this country’s DNA. As Chairman Omali Yeshitela has said, “Capitalism was born in disrepute, of the rapes, massacres, occupations, genocides, colonialism and every despicable act humans are capable of inflicting.”

This murder is an echo of the US government which was built on the tradition of white domination and violence and is guilty for the ultimate mass murder of colonized people.

White people must commit class suicide

White people, we must condemn the brutal white nationalist murders of these Asian women. We must distinguish ourselves from the white power state and stand in solidarity with all oppressed peoples under the leadership of the African People’s Socialist Party.

We must reject the complicity that has historically characterized white people and go beyond protest to destroy this system built on slavery and genocide.

Join the Uhuru Solidarity Movement, the organization of white people working under the leadership of the African People’s Socialist Party to build the movement for white reparations to African people as a genuine anti-imperialist stand.

Unite with the anti-colonial stance and join the Uhuru Solidarity Movement’s Make Wall Street Pay Reparations convention on April 17th and 18th. Be a part of the revolution for the liberation of all oppressed peoples.
