The Uhuru Solidarity Movement, the white organization under the leadership of the African People’s Socialist Party, vehemently denounces the overt assassination of Iranian General Qassim Soleimani, who was slaughtered by a U.S. air strike in Baghdad on Thursday.
The assassination of an important Iranian general who has played a key role in organizing the struggle against U.S. occupation in Iraq and Syria, as well as defending Iran from US threats of warfare, represents a desperate act of imperialist aggression against the people of the Middle East by a bloodthirsty U.S. government.
As the vanguard of the struggle for the liberation of Africa and African people everywhere, the African People’s Socialist Party has always stood in solidarity with all colonized peoples fighting for liberation and self-determination.
In 1953 the U.S. government and the CIA overthrew the democratically elected leader of Iran, Mohammed Mossadegh, installing the brutal Shah who tortured and tyrannized the people of Iran for decades before he was ousted by the Islamic Revolution in 1979. Since then, the Iranian government has been in the crosshairs of the U.S. empire for refusing to submit to its will.
International solidarity: the legacy of the APSP
In the late 1970s the APSP defended and worked with Iranian students in the U.S. who were very active in demonstrating against the tyrannical Shah regime, even in the face of threats of brutal violence by the US-backed, neocolonial Iranian intelligence organization.
The murder of Soleimani comes after a week of powerful resistance held at the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, the largest embassy in the entire world, where thousands of Iraqi people demonstrated their opposition to U.S. occupation and renewed bombing of Syria.
For thirty years Iraq and the city of Baghdad have been under assault by the U.S. The murder took place at a time when 750 U.S. troops were deployed into Iraq and 4000 more are on call.
The U.S. continues to inflame the entire Middle East region with ongoing colonial assaults and occupation. The U.S. military has been invading Iraq and Afghanistan for at least eighteen years.
We call on white people to uphold the right of the Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian and all people of the Middle East to self-determination and the right to liberate themselves in the face of ongoing U.S. assaults, murder, genocide and occupation.
U.S. government: biggest terrorist organization in the world
The U.S. government has been responsible for the deaths of millions of people in Syria, Libya, Iraq, Somalia, Pakistan, and throughout the colonized world through military attacks and economic warfare in the form of sanctions.
As Chairman Omali Yeshitela has explained, imperialism is experiencing profound crisis because it is a parasitic economic system resting on the foundation of stolen land, labor, and colonization of the vast majority of the peoples on the planet earth, starting with the enslavement of African people and genocide against the Indigenous people of this land.
Imperialist stability requires the subjugation of the colonized peoples of the world. Anti-imperialist resistance, including Iranian independence from U.S. rule, represents a mortal threat to the capitalist status quo, disturbing the balance of power and creating what the Chairman calls “an uneasy equilibrium.”
The U.S. wars of occupation in the Middle East are a continuation of the legacy of parasitic theft of wealth and resources which forms the basis for the wealth and power of Europe and the United States from the inception of world capitalism. What the U.S. does around the world to the peoples of the planet earth is a counterinsurgency strategy honed and practiced first against the African and colonized peoples inside the borders of the U.S.
The U.S. actions in the Middle East are motivated by strategic and economic interests including access to oil and other resources and geopolitical control of the region.
While the liberal sector of the white ruling class, including arch-imperialist war-mongers like Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, have feigned outrage over the assassination of Soleimani in order to use it as a cheap point against Trump during this upcoming election season, the truth is that the U.S. imperial savagery towards Iran and the Middle East is something that obviously predates the advent of the equally vile presidency of Trump.
A call for a genuine anti-imperialist, anti-war movement!
The white community inside the U.S. must be loud and clear in our opposition to what our government and ruling class are doing to the oppressed peoples of the world in our name and for our presumed benefit. But more than that, we must stand against the U.S. war inside the United States against Africans, Indigenous people and colonized peoples, as the template for what it does abroad. We must demand reparations to African people as the means by which to build a world without war and imperialism.
As Chairman Omali Yeshitela of the African People’s Socialist Party has stated, it is not enough for white people to simply call for “peace” or “stop the war” only when it takes place thousands of miles away. The war begins here inside U.S. borders.
The African People’s Socialist Party’s call to white people is to stand in solidarity with the struggle of Iranian, and ALL oppressed peoples around the world, who are fighting righteously to be free of imperialist domination and win self-determination over their own lives. This means joining the Uhuru Solidarity Movement and building the movement against imperialism and for reparations, African self-determination and socialism, inside the belly of the beast.
We call for VICTORY to the Iranians, Africans in the U.S. and around the world, the Indigenous people, the Arab world, and all colonized peoples everywhere. Victory to Iran! Victory to Iraq! Victory to Syria! Victory to the African Revolution!
Join the Uhuru Solidarity Movement and organize for white reparations to African people as the basis of a genuine anti-imperialist and anti-war stance from the white community. Reparations to African people is a revolutionary stance that targets the foundation upon which U.S. imperialism rests: a parasitic economy and white society built on slavery and genocide.
