The International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement (InPDUM) hosted a debate on Sunday, July 9th at the Uhuru House.  All of the candidates running for District 6 City Council and Mayor of St. Petersburg, Florida were invited. Only four showed up.  Jesse Nevel, who is running for mayor of St. Pete, was the only white candidate who chose to answer the question: “What About the Black Community?”   Eritha Akile Cainion, running for District 6 City Council, explained why Black Community Control of Police and economic development of the Black community are essential to the future of St. Pete.  The candidates were invited to this forum to respond to concerns from the black community regarding gentrification, police violence, economic development, reparations, affordable housing, poverty, and more.
